Tavi is a car thief, who induces Maritza Ramos to commit Grant Theft Auto. He is portrayed by Ariel Shafir.
Biography[]
Before Maritza's incarceration[]
Tavi meets Maritza for the first time in the nightclub where she works, where she is seen commiting a scam by filling empty premium vodka bottles with water after an order, then "accidentally" dropping it at the table where it was ordered, which is invariably a table of men. She then breaks into tears, panicking that her boss will make her pay, and she has a baby to care for. The men always take pity and chip in to cover the expensive bottle for her, not knowing that it is worthless. When Maritza performs the scam on Tavi's group, he chips in with his associates but pulls her aside afterwards. He tells Martiza that he knows what she is doing, and suggests to her a service with a larger cash return, in return for not telling the club owner of her scam.
Maritza introduces herself to Tavi as Yessica ("...like Jessica, but ethnic"). He takes her to a car dealership and explains the con: she will introduce herself to a customer as a salesperson, and take their ID for the testdrive. She then takes the ID to the desk and introduces herself as the customer's wife. Once on the testdrive, she will steal the car, and presumably get a cut of the profit once it is sold by Tavi.
Unfortunately, Maritza and the mark are accompanied last minute by another salesperson. After panicking at the unexpected situation, Maritza feigns sickness by the side of the road, prompting the men to exit the car, and then runs back to the vehicle and drives it away. Although not shown, this is presumed to be her reason for being incarcerated ("We'll Always Have Baltimore").
