Before Caputo's employment
Caputo was previously in another band. Lisa was his girlfriend, but she cheated on him with another band member, Hank. They later reconciled, and the band were chosen to support a popular band on tour. The band members were celebrating when Lisa appeared and asked to talk to Joe in private; she revealed her pregnancy and that it was Hank's child. Caputo gave up his spot in the band and tour to get a regular job and support Lisa. He gained employment at Litchfield Penitentiary as a CO and they moved in together.
Lisa eventually gave birth to a child, but was unhappy. A few months later, she returned to Hank, claiming to still love him and wanting to give their family a shot at being together. ("We Can Be Heroes")
